About Zehra Eekhout
Zehra is an interdisciplinary maker from Utrecht, the Netherlands. She works as a director across film and theatre, and frequently hosts radioshows about film and film soundtracks. Her works focuses on themes like memory, resistance, norms, and love. Drawing on her background in audiovisual anthropology, she seeks to learn more about inner and outer worlds through sound and image. Her visceral ways of audiovisual storytelling push her style towards the fictitious and performative.
In her latest documentary ‘Burst Out’ (2023), she follows three Lebanese creatives who reflect on their memory of the 17 October Uprising in Lebanon.
She is currently making a hybrid documentary that delves into the connection between feminism and the history of monogamy.
